From the Little Fields of Basil Bookshelf:My Yellow Balloon

My Yellow Balloon
Author: Tiffany Papageorge
Illustrator:  Erwin Madrid

1. What was the book about?
It was about a boy who lost his favorite “friend” and he cried and he wasn’t happy and then wasn’t happy for a long time. And then he started to become less unhappy and then one day, he thought he saw it again. He felt happy and then he saw it wasn’t his balloon and he was sad.

2. What did you like about the book?
Well, what I liked was the pictures. I liked the story.

3. Was there a lesson?
That you can still love things that aren’t with you.

4. Would you recommend this book?
Yes

It gets 2 1/2  out of 3 basil leaves.

Mom's review: This is an excellent book that describes and shows many of the emotions associated with loss and grief. The little boy experiences loss and in the end begins healing. It is beautifully illustrated and I'm glad to have it in our library.  You can't really tell from the review but it opened some really nice discussion opportunities about how we grieve and what are healthy emotions.

If you would like to read the last review, it can be found here.
