I've made several things in the past,
after teaching myself to knit.
I'll remind you of some past projects.
Scalloped Edge Wrap/Throw |
Mittens |
Ugly Mitten |
So I started to want to do something a little different.
So I started looking for fun with...
source BIG KNITTING! |
Have you heard of this?
It's not so new, but it is interesting!
Some have knitted giant structures and have covered park benches and trees,
which is called "Yarn Bombing."
How fun does this sound?

Some have made giant needles and mattress size blankets.

One woman even knitted with 1000 strands at the same time.
I mean this is some serious stash busting.
Extreme Knitting at its finest!
Introducing Rachel John
I don't quite have the yarn stash for something this frivolous, but seriously complicated and fun.
She broke the record!
So,
I went with size 50 needles and 4 strands of yarn,
to make...
drumroll please...
a blanket for our knitting ministry.
Ok, perhaps not revolutionary or that extreme.
You have to start somewhere.
The Knitting Group is one of our church ministries.
We get together once a month and either knit together,
or teach others how to start a piece or help them continue or finish one.
Once completed our blankets/throws are blessed,
and then go to parishioners, who have been hospitalized or are ill.
It becomes a sweet comfort to know that they have been knitted with love and prayer
and that the one receiving it, is not out of sight, out of mind.
But very much in our prayers.
What a special group of women,
I feel very blessed to have them and the funny thing is,
they have no idea how much that one hour or two a month, mean to me.
I wonder how often we do things that mean so much to others
and yet we remain unaware of the impact?
I hope my blanket gets to join these beauties above,
very soon.
Share the Day!
Fun! I wish I were in a group like that. It does sound very special! (:
ReplyDeleteThanks, I am very blessed. Start one, just see if 1-2 more people will meet you, it will grow from there. Would you be able to use it as a lesson plan with the kids too?
Deletehow fun is that!? The largest I've gone is to use 3 strands and a Q hook to crochet pet beds for the local animal shelter. 50 strands? 1000 strands? crazy!!!!
