Ode to the Enchanted Light

ODE TO THE ENCHANTED LIGHT
by Pablo Neruda (translated by Ken Krabbenhoft)

Under the trees light
has dropped from the top of the sky.
light
like a green
latticework of branches.
shining
on every leaf,
drifting down like clean
white sand.

A cicada sends
its sawing song
high into the empty air.

The world is
a glass overflowing
with water.

It's going to be hot today!

Basil

Basil, or Basilico, is a beautifully fragrant herb, easy to grow, and sun-loving.  Its aroma is sweet and it helped mark the place where Saint Helen found the life-giving cross.  It is used in cooking and in the Orthodox Christian church utilized when dipped in holy water to offer blessings and veneration.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner.
